1. Choose what you want to remove
Letters, your app account, iCloud copies, exported documents, device backups, and Apple subscriptions are managed separately. Review the relevant path before confirming a permanent deletion.
| Action | What it does | Keep in mind |
|---|---|---|
| Delete a letter | Moves it to Recently deleted for up to 30 days. | Does not cancel a subscription. |
| Delete all letters | Erases the local journal after confirmation. Enabled sync also propagates deletion. | Does not delete exports or historic backups. |
| Delete app account | When available, removes the server account and revokes Apple sign-in. | Local letters remain. Manage iCloud data separately. |
| Cancel Plus | Stops the next renewal under Apple’s subscription rules. | Does not erase your writing. |
2. Delete or restore a letter
- In the mailbox, open a letter’s menu or swipe actions and choose Delete.
- Go to Settings → Recently deleted to restore it or permanently delete it.
- Deleted letters are retained for up to 30 days unless you permanently delete them sooner. Photos stay with the letter during that period.
Permanently deleted writing cannot be recovered inside the app. Drafts and trash count toward the free 10-letter limit until permanently deleted.
3. Delete all letters
- Consider saving any reading copies you want to keep. Export is a Plus feature and is not a restorable backup.
- Open Settings → Delete all letters.
- Read both confirmations and confirm only when you intend to remove all local letters, drafts, and trash.
With iCloud sync enabled, known deletions also propagate to iCloud when synchronization succeeds. Offline devices or a paused subscription may delay propagation. Do not assume turning sync off erases existing cloud copies.
4. Delete an app account
Apple sign-in and account deletion are not active in this development build. Once account services are enabled, the in-app path is Settings → Account → Delete account, followed by confirmation.
A completed account deletion removes the server account and revokes its Apple sign-in. Local letters remain on the device. The account service does not manage your private iCloud journal. Use the journal and iCloud data controls separately, and cancel any Apple subscription separately.
This website provides instructions only. It does not accept or carry out account-deletion requests.
5. iCloud, exports & backups
Turning off sync retains local and iCloud copies. To remove cloud data, use the app’s deletion flow with sync enabled when that service is available, and check that sync completes. Apple’s iCloud storage settings may also provide app-data controls; labels vary by system version.
Delete exported PDF/text files and photos you shared using the destination app or storage provider. Device backups are controlled in Apple or computer backup settings. Deleting content in Letters to God does not erase those independent copies.
6. Cancel an Apple subscription
Open device Settings → your name → Subscriptions and select Letters Plus once an active subscription exists. Follow Apple’s cancellation instructions. Deleting an account or the app does not cancel a subscription. Apple cancellation instructions.
